The DC Farm to School Network hosts informational meetings each month that focus on different aspects of the national and Washington, DC Farm to School movement.

Read below for summaries and slideshow presentations from past meetings.


D.C. Farm to School Week Meeting – Sept. 7th

The next D.C. Farm to School meeting will be for exclusively school contacts interested in coordinating farm field trips and chef demonstrations at their schools during D.C. Farm to School Week, October 12-15, 2010.  Participating schools must send a representative (parent, teacher, etc.) to this mandatory meeting in order to receive assistance from the D.C. Farm to School Network planning for the farm field trip and chef demo.

When: Tuesday September 7, 2010; 4:00-5:00PM

Where: Friends of the Earth, 1100 15th St. NW, 11th floor


Meeting 8:

Thursday July 15th from Noon-1:30PM at Friends of the Earth’s NEW location – 1100 15th St. NW, 11th Floor.

D.C. Healthy Schools Meal Workshop

On March 18th, 2010, the D.C. Farm to School Network partnered with the Office of the State Superintendent of Education to host the D.C Healthy School Meals Workshop.  This workshop was designed for food service management, school food authorities, and vendors participating in the National School Lunch Program in Washington, DC.  The keynote address was delivered by Doug Davis of Burlington, VT Public Schools.  Following the keynote, several innovative food service providers took part in a panel discussion.

Meeting Seven:

Instead of an in-person meeting this month, the DC Farm to School Network hosted a free webinar on Tuesday, January 12th. The webinar focused on the the farm to school components of the Healthy Schools Act introduced in DC City Council.

DC Farm to School – Parents Meeting!

DC parents want their kids to eat more fresh produce, schools want to serve it, and local farmers are eager to sell it.  What is the role of parents in making Farm to School a reality here in the District?  Come learn about and discuss Farm to School with fellow DC parents in an open and inclusive atmosphere.

Meeting Six:

Whitney Bateson from Chartwells School Dining Services for DC Public Schools talked about how the DCPS school food system works and how Chartwells is changing for the better.

Meeting Five:

This meeting involved discussion on moving forward to get more local food and food education into DC schools. Successes from Local Flavor Week and next steps were discussed.

Meeting Four

The fourth DC Farm to School network meeting consisted of a series of Farm to School ’snapshots’ from across the country presented by Tegan Hagy. Tegan Hagy works for The Food Trust and serves as the Mid-Atlantic Farm to School Coordinator.

Meeting Three

The third meeting’s discussion centered around bringing ‘farm to school’ ideas into DC schools: opportunities, advisory board, ideas, and the basic plan.

Meeting One

The first DC Farm to School meeting consisted of an overview of Farm to School:  the national and local movement, statistics, and benefits.  This presentation can be viewed here.
